Vincent Dekkers. Born 1971 in Geldrop.
My pictures are close encounters with strangers. I am looking for special people, nice backgrounds and reveal their state of mind. I show my interest in people and capture their true selves. I try to understand why people behave the way they do. Besides taking pictures I really like to talk with all the people I meet.
The youth culture is my first and foremost subject. I like their longing for freedom and the courageuos surge for identity, which is part of growing up. In a way; this is what I like in life in general.
The street is my starting point where I look for all sorts of people. I photograph on the spot or ask people for their mobile number, visite them at home and get an impression of their personal life. The pictures presented on my website are part of different series which I’ve worked on for a long period of time.
To me; the medium of photography has it’s limitations in telling a story, that’s way I started making short film documentaries.
During my study at Art school Sint Joost, Breda I made an internship at NRC Handelsblad daily newspaper. After graduation at I’ve started to work as a freelance Photographer. I’ve been working for several clients like: Rotterdam council, Algemeen Dagblad, NRC Handelsblad, Volkskrant and Getty Images.
